After my death our beloved Church abroad will break three ways ... first the Greeks will leave us as they were never a part of us ... then those who live for this world and its glory will go to Moscow ... what will remain will be those souls faithful to Christ and His Church. ~St. Philaret of NY

Bluffton Convent Under Legal Threat

Rocana Update News Item

The Convent of the Holy Protection, in Bluffton Alberta, was part of the historic ROCOR, but sought refuge under the authority of the Greek Synod in Resistance in 2007, before ROCOR unified with the Moscow Patriarchate. The convent is a valuable and active part of the Orthodox community in Alberta, and has regular contact with our parish (St. Vladimir's) in Edmonton.  Since 2008, Abbess Isihia, a cleric associated with ROCOR-Vl (the denomination that formed under the titular leadership of Metropolitan Vitaliy after he was removed as the head of ROCOR in 2001) has attempted to take control of the convent.

The property of the Convent of the Holy Protection Convent belonged to Metropolitan Vitaly, who passed away in 2006. He willed the convent to Abbess Eugenia (who is currently Abbess of the Convent), but at the time of his repose he left behind six different wills, which are currently being investigated in a court case in Quebec. So the legal status of the Protection Convent is unclear. Please pray for Abbess Ambr
osia and the nuns.
