After my death our beloved Church abroad will break three ways ... first the Greeks will leave us as they were never a part of us ... then those who live for this world and its glory will go to Moscow ... what will remain will be those souls faithful to Christ and His Church. ~St. Philaret of NY

“The reason there’s not been a pentecostal charismatic renewal movement within Orthodoxy is because of a healthy and robust theology of the Holy Spirit. I think what began this disintegration… was the theology of the (filioque) which results in a very weak doctrine of the Holy Spirit.” – Fr. Patrick, Antiochian Church

Interesting angle. I would not have thought of that.

I would explain it this way: that the imposter-spirit slips in when the real Holy Spirit is not there.

People who don't believe in anything supernatural or even have an awareness that the psychic realm exists – they are protected by their disbelief.

But Bible believing heterodox Christians are vulnerable to the pseudo-spirits and supernatural phenomenon in general. No surprise that the world Orthodox who most akin to the heterodox [Antiochians, American Greeks, etc.] are also vulnerable.
