After my death our beloved Church abroad will break three ways ... first the Greeks will leave us as they were never a part of us ... then those who live for this world and its glory will go to Moscow ... what will remain will be those souls faithful to Christ and His Church. ~St. Philaret of NY

Concelebration of Union

From: Metr. Chrysostomos of Etna
Date: 30 March 2014
Feast of St. John of the Ladder

Clergy, Faithful, and Friends of our humble Diocese:

May God bless you.

In contrast to what is, on the Internet and other gossip mills, mostly speculative rubbish, theologically unlearned opinion, and gossip about the Old Calendarist Union in Greece, here is the wonderful sermon preached by Metropolitan Cyprian of Oropos and Phyle, former President of the Holy Synod in Resistance, at the union Liturgy in Athens, on the Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross.

What a stark difference there is between the tortuous weaving of false impressions by those ecclesiastical critics and agents provocateurs who misuse Scripture, the Canons, and the Fathers to attack, undermine, and place in question the good things of the Church, and the sweetness of the words of spiritual individuals who, seeking union with God, serving the Church in humility, love, and forgiveness, speak the the truth, spurn false impressions, and represent the spirit rather than some perversion of the law.

I commend this magnificent sermon to all Orthodox Christians who can lift their heads far enough out of the mud to see the beauty of our Faith and who, if they are sincere, will extract themselves from the quagmire of Internet gossip,  correct their errors, humbly seek love and unity, and thus serve Orthodoxy as it should be served: judging oneself first and seeking God above all things.

A reminder:... "A Parish Church", is mainly and in reality, the Parish Family, the People, 'The Laos, the People of God', not finally what building they worship in.  Here a humble room has become a holy and glorious Cathedral..... where saints and angels attend the prayers....

And, behold in these photos, the pure angelic faces of the children......
how precious to behold!  If only we all could become as they are......

In the Fourth Week of Great Lent, to our parish was made an archpastoral visit of Metropolitan Agafangel, Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, managing the Moscow diocese.

March 30, 2014, on the feast day of St. John of the Ladder's Memory, at the  Divine Liturgy in the parish church, was co-served by Archpriest Eugene Koriagina.

The bishop, with bread and salt was met by hostess Tatiana G. and a festive bouquet was handed to our dear Vladyka, by the  children of the parish.

During the service, the congregation, a combination of two parishes, prayed together: of The Holy New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia, Sv. Novomuchenikov from the Voskresenka Moscow region and those of the parish of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco.

In a part of the service, Vladyka ordained [long time reader] Reader Michael Malama as a  subdeacon.  After the Divine Liturgy, Archpriest Eugene intoned the Many Years to the ruling bishop of  the Moscow diocese, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Abroad, Metropolitan Agathangel, who spoke to subdeacon Michael and his friends, and the children Tamara, John, Artemy, Peter, Natalie and all parishioners.

Then Archpriest Eugene thanked Metropolitan Agafangel for the joy of serving with the Ruling Bishop, and on behalf of the two parishes presented some artistically embroidered vestments..

After the service, the hospitable hosts offered all a celebratory dinner.

At the meal Fr. Eugene asked Vladyka to speak about his trip to Greece.  Vladyka gave the details to the parishioners regarding his trip and shared his spiritual joy that two synods of bishops, in our difficult times, found the possibility of merging.

Vladyka was also asked questions about our parishes in Ukraine, and the attitude of the civil authorities, there, to our Russian Orthodox Church Abroad.

Next Proto-Priest Evgeny raised the issue of the internet-media, in particular, the two online resources of ROCA.  On behalf of the members who were present of the Moscow diocese, Protopriest Evgeny pointed to the inadmissibility of the use of the [name of] the website "New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia", edited by Priest Valery Leonichevym, as if it were the mind of their parish, to express their parish's POLITICAL position.

Their parish website should reflect its parish life and not be a place to organize copyright materials acting provocatively on the rest of the diocese.  Discussed on that site are materials which do not often appear to be in the tradition of ROCA.  The participants were asked to request to Vladyka  Agafangel for him to speak to Priest Valery, that if he wants to publish materials that diverge from the historical views of ROCA, to change the name of his blog from [or to?]  the "New Martyrs Parish Russia" or on the other hand, [and to state] that his blog is not related to [does not speak for] the diocese, for example, to, perhaps, the new name of, "The Monarchist" or something else..

All participants also inquired of Vladyka about the site "Internet Sobor",  [that it] distinguish between individual authorship comments, and the position of the leadership of the forum.

A question was also raised about the Prohibition [banning], of Mikhail V. Nazarov and if there might be some possible withdrawal from that prohibited situation.  Then His Eminence explained that Mikhail Viktorovich Nazarov must first apologize publicly for insulting some bishops and the priests of ROCOR.

At the end of the meal, all unanimously testified to their unity with the Synod of Bishops, and noted that many puzzling questions can be resolved by joint fraternal conversation.

The parishioners thanked the Lord for Vladyka Agafangel's arrival in Moscow and they expressed the wish to see him again in our diocese.

Archbishop Methody 1928

(Matthew 13:9)

(Translated by Eugenia Richards)

From the editor:  While looking through certain journals of our extensive family library, I set my attention on the spiritual-moral Orthodox journal No. 4 from April 1 – 30, 1928, “The Heavenly Bread”, published by the monastery of the Kazan Mother of God, in the city of Harbin, China.  This remarkable journal was published with the blessing of the Archbishop, and later Metropolitan Methody of Harbin and Manchuria, under the editorship of Archimandrite Juvenaly.

I became acquainted with Bishop Methody through the accounts of the pious father Archimandrite Polycarp, an elder wise in age and humble, who lived out his final days in the Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, New York, USA.  Father Polycarp described Bishop Methody as a humble, kind, most loving, experienced, caring shepherd, the doors of whose home were open for everyone.  The literary efforts of Vladika were deeply appreciated by Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky).

In the fourth issue of the journal “The Heavenly Bread”, on page 35, is the profoundly heart-felt sermon of Vladika Methody, to which the Laurus Synod should pay particular attention as it shamefully grovels before the so-called Moscow Patriarchate.

If the declaration of metropolitan Sergius caused the Orthodox world to be shaken to its foundation, then the unification of the ROCA and the Moscow Patriarchate will annihilate the Church Abroad!

Protopriest Anatoly Trepatschko
June, 2005

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

The bright days of the Holy Pascha of Christ are approaching… We Christians know that the three-day glorious Resurrection of Christ was preceded by the suffering on the cross and the death of Christ.  And now, as if in likeness of our Lord, the bright days of Pascha are preceded by the grievous days of an imminent grave ordeal.  The Moscow church authority, which recognized the soviet power as a power from God, intends to appoint its own bishop to the Harbin see, who even here in our churches will have to proclaim the godless soviet regime from the church ambo, as a power from God, and proclaim that “the joys of the soviet regime must be the joys of the church, the sorrows of the soviet regime should be the sorrows of the church as well, and every blow dealt to the soviet regime, no matter from whence it proceeds, is a blow to the church” (from the epistle of metropolitan Sergius, dated July 16/29, 1927) and to recognize and be grateful to the soviet regime which “provided refuge to the church” and provided it “one of the conquests of the revolution – freedom from any political or state mission” (from the epistle of metropolitan Sergius, dated June 10/May 28, 1926).

A sorrowful sensation overcomes the soul.  A bishop who blesses the regime which has trampled all Divine and human laws, which desecrates holy things, destroys churches turning them into places for revelry and dens of drunken debauchery, who reddened his hands with the martyrs blood of Hierarchs, clergy and the best sons of our Homeland, the Russian land!  A bishop who is compelled to debase his lofty rank with servitude and servility before the godless authority, which needs him only as an instrument of destruction of the very faith which that bishop serves.

A sorrowful sensation overcomes the soul.  A bishop who is forced to be hypocritical from the church ambo, to teach faith in God and expose godlessness, and with the same mouth bless and proclaim that the regime is from God – a regime which wages war against God with blood and violence, and appointed that same bishop with the sole purpose of sowing confusion and temptation into the souls of the faithful, thereby shaking and destroying their faith.

We will not judge that bishop, but we cannot permit our churches to become a place for the pernicious communist plague, disguised only by the holy place and name of a church; we cannot permit the divine services of our temples to be darkened by prayer for blasphemers, persecutors of the faith, and torturers.  We cannot permit this.

But we will entreat the Lord, we will entreat His Most Pure Mother, that we be spared from the oncoming dark cloud of church turmoil and temptation, and that the Merciful Lord grant us mercy that we may greet and pass the bright days of the Pascha of Christ in spiritual joy.

I Bind Unto Myself Today

my favorite hymn of the Episcopal Church
known as St. Patrick's Breastplate

Saint Patrick's Breastplate is a heterodox Christian hymn.
The original Old Irish lyrics are traditionally attributed to Saint Patrick.

I bind unto myself today
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same
The Three in One and One in Three.

I bind this today to me forever
By power of faith, Christ’s incarnation;
His baptism in Jordan river,
His death on Cross for my salvation;
His bursting from the spicèd tomb,
His riding up the heavenly way,
His coming at the day of doom
I bind unto myself today.

I bind unto myself the power
Of the great love of cherubim;
The sweet ‘Well done’ in judgment hour,
The service of the seraphim,
Confessors’ faith, Apostles’ word,
The Patriarchs’ prayers, the prophets’ scrolls,
All good deeds done unto the Lord
And purity of virgin souls.

I bind unto myself today
The virtues of the star lit heaven,
The glorious sun’s life giving ray,
The whiteness of the moon at even,
The flashing of the lightning free,
The whirling wind’s tempestuous shocks,
The stable earth, the deep salt sea
Around the old eternal rocks.

I bind unto myself today
The power of God to hold and lead,
His eye to watch, His might to stay,
His ear to hearken to my need.
The wisdom of my God to teach,
His hand to guide, His shield to ward;
The word of God to give me speech,
His heavenly host to be my guard.

Against the demon snares of sin,
The vice that gives temptation force,
The natural lusts that war within,
The hostile men that mar my course;
Or few or many, far or nigh,
In every place and in all hours,
Against their fierce hostility
I bind to me these holy powers.

Against all Satan’s spells and wiles,
Against false words of heresy,
Against the knowledge that defiles,
Against the heart’s idolatry,
Against the wizard’s evil craft,
Against the death wound and the burning,
The choking wave, the poisoned shaft,
Protect me, Christ, till Thy returning.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity,
By invocation of the same,
The Three in One and One in Three.
By Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.

This hymn can be a challenge to sing without seeing the words matched to the notes.

Christian State Charter vs. NWO

A few ROCA members received this email below.  It contains a 12/31/13 letter from the Byzantine-Catholic Patriarch written to Putin proposing a possible draft of a Christian Charter.  In urging Putin to adopt such a charter, the letter states, "If Russia adopts this Charter, she will become the single option on the planet that will be able to resist the globalizing system of death."

Interesting, I thought, because...  I recall a Russian prophecy which says that Russia will  be the last hold-out to submit to Antichrist's one world government.

In the meantime, each of the major world leaders working to create the one world government also vie to be the president of it.   But it won't be any of them.  It will be Antichrist, and he will make Jerusalem his capital of the world.

Teenagers, Read This!

High Treason (2001)
By Professor Olga A. Dolskaya [pre-Laurus Jordanville]

...ROCOR hierarchs decided to take the first perilous step towards unification with the MP and create a committee to “merely hold talks” as they presented it to the naïve.  This shows either ignorance of the realities taking place in the CIS* or some very successful brainwashing over the years, by those in clergy and leadership positions in ROCOR, whose interests lie in prestige, money and power which will come to them when unification is finally accomplished.  But who are the masterminds, aside from those invisibly ruling the world towards the Antichrist?

...“Let us prove that the CPSU, Communist Party of the Soviet Union, as it restructures itself, is capable of living up to these expectations and then it will become a truly vanguard party whose power lies not in giving orders but in influencing people’s minds.”  By influence is meant a perverse denial of natural individuality, endorsed by ideology and programs that have been put into place to exert group pressure on the individual in order to force him to adopt “New Thinking,” to foster an acceptance of group control over values, attitudes, and behavior, in other words, the “collective” exists to exert group pressure on the population to conform with the demands of the Revolution.  “Diversity” is not the innocent expansion of our human sympathies that it pretends to be, but the “common mind” of the Stalinist policy of ‘positive discrimination’ in an Age of Diversity, thus degrading the efficiency of the workplace, upsetting its equilibrium, where the targeted country must in the name of diversity, abandon its particularity, while the very groups making the demand shall hold on to theirs.  Together with “outlook-based education,” many such slogans which have entered our programs have actually been taken from the notorious Prison Notebooks of the Italian Communist theoretician, Antonio Gramsci, the architect of a new strategy for socialist transformation, and originator of the ‘war of position’ strategy that emphasizes ideological preparation as a prelude to the conquest of power of a gradual build-up toward proletarian-socialist hegemony within the political infrastructure of the bourgeois society (rather than bloody revolution), and Lavrentii Beria’s (Stalin’s sinister chief of police) introduction to Communist Manual of Instruction on Psychopolitical Warfare, which was used at Lenin University in Moscow to teach American students.  These dealt with all phases of warfare, both psychological and physical, for the destruction of capitalistic society and Christian civilization.  It included the art of capturing the minds of a nation through brainwashing- the subjecting of whole nations of people to the (eventual) rule of the Kremlin by capturing their minds.  By making readily available drugs of various kinds, by giving the teenager alcohol, by prising* his wildness, by stimulating him with sex literature [also various venues of entertainment, film, etc.], the psychopolitical operator can create the necessary attitude of chaos, idleness and worthlessness into which can then be cast the solution which will give the teenager complete freedom everywhere- Communism.  In this blueprint, there must be continual propaganda abroad to undermine the loyalty of the citizens in general and the teenager in particular.

...Beria's Address to American students [of the American Communist Party] at the Lenin University: You must work until suicide arising from mental imbalance is common and calls forth no general investigation.  With the institutions for the insane, prisons which can hold millions and can hold them without civil rights or any hope of freedom, upon these people can be practiced shock and surgery so that never again will they draw a sane breath.  You must dominate hospitals and universities.  With psychopolitics you can erase our enemies as insects.  You can cripple the efficiency of leaders by striking insanity into their families through the use of drugs.  By constant campaign about the terrors of society, by pretense as to your effectiveness make your Capitalist himself, by his own appropriations, finance a large portion of the quiet Communist conquest of the nation.  By psychopolitics create chaos.  Leave a nation leaderless.  Kill our enemies.

* What is the difference between the CIS and the USSR?

* here the word "prising" means to bring out, to pry out the innate wild nature in a youth, so that he never develops a sane mature strong adult character.   A person who is ruled by passions can easily be controlled by the promise of having their passions fulfilled or by the threat of having that fulfillment taken away.  Antichrist wants a person who can be controlled.  But when a person's "passion" is Christ, then Antichrist has no control over that person, because nothing can separate us from the love of Christ (as the martyrs prove).

High Treason

Church Unity

Metropolitan Anthony Khrapovitsky

In explaining the High Priestly prayer of our Lord, “This prayer concerns nothing else other than he establishment of a new, united existence of the Church on earth.  This reality has its image not on earth, where there is no unity but only division, but rather its image is in heaven where the unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit unites Three Persons in one Being.  Thus there are not three Gods but One God who lives One life.  The Church is the completely new, particular, unique existence on earth, a unique existence which one cannot define clearly by certain concepts taken from profane life.  The Church is an image of Trinitarian existence, an image in which many persons become one being.  Why is such an existence, as also the existence of the Holy Trinity, new, and for ancient man, inaccessible?  For this reason; because in the natural self-consciousness a person is enclosed within himself and is radically opposed to every other person.”

St. Ephraem Homily to Heretics

A Hymn of St. Ephraem the Syrian
Error Counterfeits Truth
a homily addressed to all heretics

How much the heretics resemble
Those who steal the signet of a king,
And impress false coin with it secretly,
This, falling into the hands of the skillful,
They see there the seal and the royal image,
But detect also the counterfeit, and the fraud of the artist.
Thus the thief is not able,
To imitate the signet entirely,
So false teachers that counterfeit the way,
Cannot imitate the waymarks of the kingdom.

And while the waymarks are standing,
The road itself is not unknown;
So that whoever is sound of memory,
When he looks on the waymarks, can understand
Both whose they are and whence and whither they lead.
Thus he who moves the waymarks to a by-road
Deserves a two fold reprehension;
For he injures the road and steals the waymarks.--
Blessed, O Lord, is the power of Thy truth,
For no one is able to eclipse its beams!

Come, let us further consider this way
Which the heretics tread in a by-course,
Having stolen and arranged in order
The waymarks of our true King.
Behold! The names of Father, Son, and Holy Ghost,
The standard of the chrism, and also of Baptism,
The breaking of bread, and the cup of salvation,
The stolen Scriptures which they have corrupted.
Blessed be the King of kings,
Whose way is like the mountains which cannot be concealed.

Come! Contemplate these imbecile men,
Who with their broken fragments of truth
Would bury these high mountains
Which cannot be stolen nor concealed!
And perceiving the waymarks cannot be covered,
They call them by the name of another king who has no existence.
Some men indeed err and believe them,
But others reject and reprove them.--
Blessed is He who has fixed waymarks on earth,
As He fixed the starry lights on high!

And no man is able
To conceal the rays of dawn,
So no one hath power
To hide the truth of the Scriptures
Some stumble in the many lights of heaven,
And some err in the abundance of the Scriptures;
In the lights above they find stumbling blocks,
And in the pure Scriptures blemishes.
Blessed is He Who hath illumined us with light,
And saved us by truth which cannot be refuted.

New RocorMP priest meets MP approval

So much for RocorMP being able to decide all internal matters

As reported on the official RocorMP website, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow confirmed the election of Priest Nicholas Olhovsky, cleric of the Eastern American Diocese (Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City) as Bishop of Manhattan.  In accordance with the Act of Canonical Communion, an official petition requesting the confirmation of Fr. Nicholas Olhovsky’s election was presented to His Holiness, MP Patriarch Kyrill, and the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church by RocorMP Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad.

Official ROCOR/MP announcement of this deplorable action:

... this latest public example [more proof] of how subservient to the KGB controlled MP, are the full realities, not merely the written text on that  WORTHLESS piece of paper, called the 'TOMOS', of that lamentable 2007 betrayal of our old free ROCOR to Moscow.   The part of the old free ROCOR that so foolishly and blindly followed the leadership of Laurus Shkurla, and submitted, in 2007,  to the Stalin created in 1943, 'Moscow Patriarchate' in reality, GAVE UP ALL OF THEIR FORMER 'autonomy', their INDEPENDENCE from KGB Kremlin control!

TOC Author Shocks World

TOC Author V. Moss Shocks World by Approving of Church Union
by Anastasios Hudson on March 26th, 2014
Disclaimer: The following is a work of satire. My goal is not to make fun of the individual in question, but to illustrate a serious problem which his writings convey: sectarianism. While he certainly makes valid points here and there, the spirit of his essays overall is divisive and I believe counter-productive to the True Orthodox witness.

(RURAL SERBIA/LONDON)  Prolific, ultraconservative TOC Author Vladimir Moss shocked the ecclesiastical world today by throwing his support behind a Church Union.
The well-known critic has gone on record opposing every known instance of a Church dialogue, discussion, negotiation, or union dating back to at least 1992, when the ROCOR joined communion with the True Orthodox Church of Romania. He is also known to be apprehensive about joint coffee runs between opposing jurisdictions.
“When you’re a member of the Only True Church Left on Earth—the ROCORIRIEVS—,” he starts, referring to what is commonly known as the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia Inside Russia Into England Via Serbia, “you naturally view any opposing group as Satanic Freemasons attempting to subvert the good thing you have going for you. In perhaps 1% of the cases I’ve seen, there were a few sympathetic people I would have had coffee with maybe, but definitely no inter-communion accords.” Noticing our correspondent’s raised eyebrow, he hurriedly finishes, “I’m just trying to alert the world to the dangers of infiltration by a fifth column.”
Asked about his methodology for researching and compiling his treatises, he points to a recent work against the Kallinikos-Cyprianite Union. “You have to start out with some black-and-white scripture verses—Old Testament references are a must–to set the mood.” This is followed by broad and general condemnations of errors on the part of the TOCs to establish a sense of fairness, feigned praise of allegedly good aspects of the union in question, and then a vicious dissection of the actual details, focusing primarily on hearsay, assumption, casting aspersions, and analogies to past events that may only be tangentially related.
“Framing it into political terms, and playing on Russians’ fears of Greeks trying to resurrect the Byzantine Empire in an ecclesiastical sense are the ways I like to end any such essay. Really gets people riled up.”
Our correspondent asked Moss about his own previous jurisdiction crossing, which at the last tally has seen him be a member of thirteen different True Orthodox Churches. “I’ve just been blessed to have always known to get out before the light switch goes off…you know, before Divine Grace gets switched off?”
Moss shows us his study, which is filled with copious books, articles, clippings, and computer storage devices. On his wall are his diplomas, baptismal certificates, and confessions of faith. “I don’t have one for when I joined the True Orthodox Church of Mauritania (Synod of Archbishop Hesychios). They just let me in by confession. That is how I should have known they would later turn out to be Sergianists!”
He remarks that leaving the GOC-Kallinikos was a close call, though.
“I really waited too long to leave those heretics. This will totally not sound humble, but I have to speak the truth…I think God was preserving Grace in their jurisdiction just for my sake, until I figured out for myself that it was time to move on.”
That is why news that Moss had thrown his support behind a recent Church union came as a surprise to many. The ROCORIRIEVS recently concluded negotiations with the Genuine Orthodox Church of Monaco, and are sealing their union this coming Sunday. Asked what was different about this union, Moss didn’t hesitate.
“Those heretics realized they were hopelessly compromised and that their Church was completely worthless, with no redeeming value. They asked ROCORIRIEVS bishops to not only reordain them, but to rebaptize them first, reconsecrate their Churches, rehear all their previous 20 years’ worth of confessions, and agreed to publicly burn all their theological and liturgical books, replacing them with ROCORIRIEVS-supplied materials. And pray for the Tsar-to-be-revealed in the liturgy instead of that Papist Pseudo-Prince currently usurping the throne.”
Inquiring as to whether this seemed a Church union or more rather a Church conquest, Moss became pensive. “You know? I kind of like the sound of that. Church unions are universally bad. Church conquests are how we should be phrasing these God-pleasing events going forward.”

Dr. Vladimir Moss has written a paper titled: THE KALLINIKITE UNIA, dated March 12/25/14.

It is about 2 or 3 pages, typical of what we expect from Dr. Moss when he writes concerning cyprianites.  The word "grace" or "graceless" appears 13 times, the word "heretic" appears 27 times.  The paper is saturated with misrepresentations – far too many to sift through.   I'm not going to post it on this blog, but I'll post a couple of samples.

• His opening quote is from Proverbs, and refers to the GOC:
"He who joins hands with the unrighteous will not go unpunished…
He who judges the unrighteous as righteous, and the righteous as unrighteous,  He is unclean and abominable before God.  Proverbs 11.20, 17.6."

• Vladyka Agafangel is still criticized by the fragments for not joining one of the existing fragments in May 2007.
"All the Russian True [i.e., fragment] Orthodox bishops, in his [Agafangel's] opinion, were and are graceless.  As for the Moscow Patriarchate, while condemning it, he refused to say that it was graceless."
Vladyka never said the fragments were graceless.  He said they were not canonical.  Big difference to our mind, apparently no difference to the super-correct mind.

• Concerning the Communiqués:
"Of course, we do not know what went on behind closed doors, or what was contained in the secret clauses of the agreement, if such existed."
This backhanded speculation (sowing distrust) reveals the very lack of charity that prevents the super-correct from seeing the Royal Path.

What ROAC is saying about the union

Editorial opinion
from Joanna's notepad

so much for the hope of ROAC following the example of the GOC/SIR union...

ROAC-Abp. Andrew Maklakov* has issued a statement, not yet published on the ROAC website, about the GOC/SIR union.   It is being circulated on emailing lists, and has been posted on a news site that caters to all the fragments, (NFTU).
*Remember that our synod has warned us to avoid ROAC-Abp. Andrew.

ROAC-Abp. Andrew's statement is brief.  The first 2/3 of it is about grace – the grace given for existence vs. the grace given for salvation.   Then he says,

"It seems to me that in these recent statements made by these synods, there is really nothing new. No one has repudiated Cyprianism. No one has called it a heresy or repented of it. The basic premise of Cyprianism is that the grace of the Church, the grace of the Sacraments, exists in the True Church as well as in the false “church.” The statement made by the Cyprianite Synod seems to me to be rather vague. The GOC, which has condemned Cyprianism on paper, nevertheless practices it, both in Greece, and in the US. This was the case in the past several years, and is still the case.

All of these men rightly condemn ecumenism. But they fail to see how their imprecise understanding of where the grace of the Church, the grace of the Sacraments, truly resides, and where it is absent, gives reason for the True Orthodox to believe that they have accepted a veiled form of ecumenism, or cryptoecumenism. This is the essence of Cyprianism. And so, we see another trick of the devil in capturing men’s souls by the error that they think they have eradicated. I have no doubt that they sincerely reject the idea of Cyprianism, but they don’t understand that, although they reject it in word, they continue to practice it in deed."

one commentator wrote:
"It is unfortunate that Archbishop Andrew is joining the bandwagon of those that wish to malign the unity of the Church."

So maybe we can see the direction ROAC is going to take and the excuse it is going to use to continue in its separateness:  it is going to insist that cyprianism is a heresy that was never repented by SIR.

There is a lie in this, because the truth is that cyprianism never was a heresy.  Ecumenism is the heresy, and cyprianism is not ecumenism.  Cyprianism was merely a way, just one way, of  describing/defining the conditions caused by ecumenism.

One can find a fault with any analogy.  Even the analogy Christ made about abiding in the vine is faulty, because a cut-off branch can take root elsewhere and start it's own new cloned vine.  Voila! Protestantism justified!  If Christ can't make a perfect analogy, then what hope is there for us to make a perfect analogy?

An analogy is a tool and needs to be used properly to be edifying.  Not misused for destruction.  Because the cyprianite analogy was defective, a new definition was forged, WITH THE AID OF holy Church Fathers who clearly saw the defect (stumbling block) in the cyprian-definition.

The super-correct (disease) definition of ecumenism strictly says that any Church that has fallen into ecumenism to any degree at any time is instantly heretical, and therefore instantly totally without any sacramental grace.  As long as ROAC won't budge from its diseased definition, it still has its excuse to stay separated from its mother Church.

Why does ROAC stubbornly cling to its excuse for separation?  Maybe, the core purpose for its existence, the reason it was created in the first place, is to cause and maintain separation by schism.   This is a commonly well-known tactic of the KGB.
