After my death our beloved Church abroad will break three ways ... first the Greeks will leave us as they were never a part of us ... then those who live for this world and its glory will go to Moscow ... what will remain will be those souls faithful to Christ and His Church. ~St. Philaret of NY

Metropolitan Agafangel Appeal to RTOC members

Metropolitan Agafangel  September 29, 2015

(from RTOC website: more pretense from Melehov)

Additional clarification

In addition to the earlier published announcement from the Chancellery of the Synod of the RTOC, it needs to be noted that Bishop Stefan, of Trenton and North America participated in the Bishops' Conference only on the first day - June 06/19, 2015, and left that very same day. Therefore, he was not present at the Bishops' Conference on June 07/20, 2015, and did not participate in the decision regarding the 3 Greek clergymen. Also, Bishop Stefan did not participate in the concelebration of the Divine Liturgy on June 08/21, 2015.
Furthermore, by announcing that, “…the Synod of the RTOC has made a step in the restoration of the True Orthodox Church of Greece, of which the current hierarchy has departed from the unadulterated confession of Faith following its union with the Greek Synod in Resistance on March 10/23, 2014,” the Synod of the Russian True Orthodox Church underscores the serious canonical and ecclesiastical errors committed by the Synod of the TGOC, under the omophor of Archbishop Kallinikos, in uniting with the Greek Synod in Resistance, or Cyprianites, which confused our clergy and flock. After renouncing the Synod in Resistance and its heretical ecclesiology at least twice over several decades, the TGOC entered into a union with the SiR, without demanding any prerequisite conditions for this union, namelythe correction of the past canonical foundation of the SiR (a schism), and renouncing the ecclesiological false teachings of Met. Cyprian of the SiR. Instead of offering repentance for their schism and heretical teachings, the SiR bishops continue to insist that the union between the TGOC and the SiR needs to be viewed as a union betweentwo canonical synodsof Greece. In his announcement, the SiR Bishop Auxentios of Aetna and Portland said, “No prayer of any kind was ever read over either of us, nor did we submit any sort of confession for our supposed past heresy. Nor would we ever have accepted such provisions. I think that this fact speaks for itself.”
It is specifically these serious mistakes, committed through this union, which the Synod of the RTOC draws to the attention of the bishops and flock of the TOC of Greece.
Protopresbyter Victor Melehov, Secretary
Synod of Bishops
Russian True Orthodox Church

(Vladyka Agafangel comment and appeal):

It is strange to hear this from people who initially wanted to have a dialogue [intercommunion] with the Synod in Resistance, but the SIR would only consider union with those Russians who are in communion with Metr. Agafangel.  So, RTOC decided to "try its luck" with CPI Synod of Greece and almost got what it asked. Moreover, their desire to have fellowship was so great that one of the RTOC bishops, for the sake of it, had himself re-baptized as his baptism was not complete.

Rather than continue the dialogue and complete the path to unity, RTOC representatives opted for complete isolation and ended up rooted in the schism from the Russian Church, managed to inflict a split in the Serbian and Greek churches.

I once again call on the members of the RTOC to abandon this disastrous path and return to a constructive dialogue with their former brethren [ROCOR] to overcome their differences and establish a genuine unity in Christ.
+ Metropolitan Agafangel

RTOC went to desperate measures to try to unite with the SIR, but makes no effort to unite with ROAC or ROCiE.

The RTOC is only interested in unions that would harm the Church. If they can unite with SIR, then they can destroy the SIR canonicity by their own non-canonicity.

But worse, if they could unite with the SIR, then they could get the SIR to TRESPASS against their Sister ROCOR. Because, the RTOC is a schism from the ROCOR and it should first repair its schism by returning to the ROCOR. ROCA is the "brethren" to which Vladyka Agafangel begs them to return.

It would be the same trespass, shoe on the other foot, if ROCOR went into communion with the Matthewites without the Matthewites first repairing their schism from the GOC.

One thing could be some help... Etna has to stop saying that "nothing" has changed. It is true that SIR bishops were not re-ordained; it is true SIR did not repent of any so-called "heresy", and truly two canonical Churches did reunite. ROCOR has always said that both the SIR and the GOC were/are canonical.

BUT. It is not true that "nothing" changed. Etna should stop saying that nothing changed. Something did change. The wording of the SIR's idea about "sick and healthy" was totally changed and that wording is not permitted to be used.

Another problem I notice is that, in America anyway, Etna represents the SIR. And Etna does not have the respect in America that GOC diocesan bishops deserve to have, and need to have in order to lead their flock.
