After my death our beloved Church abroad will break three ways ... first the Greeks will leave us as they were never a part of us ... then those who live for this world and its glory will go to Moscow ... what will remain will be those souls faithful to Christ and His Church. ~St. Philaret of NY

Returning to a Royal Path Church

from Joanna's notepad

We are praying harder now for the return of worthy sheep from the fragments, and we are still praying for the awakening of sheep in the ROCOR-MP.  Since the GOC union, with their greater number of parishes than ROCOR, it is likely that the returning sheep will find a GOC parish closer to them.

Last week I learned that if a person returns from an ecumenical Church, then in the GOC they are "re-chrismated".  Of course each case is considered individually, (and this assumes their baptism is in order), but this is standard for the GOC.  I know it is not so in the ROCOR, – if it is done at all, it is not standard.  Both our apostates and schismatics return through confession.

This underscores that, in the eyes of the GOC, a schismatic is different from an apostate – at least in terms of the grace of the Holy Spirit seal at chrismation.

What else this means, if anything, I do not know.  In the past we have always let our Sister Churches manage their own affairs without interfering.  ROCOR priests will commune Sister Church members who are in good standing in their own church.  We can expect the GOC would do the same for us.

Some ROCOR-MP members might be surprised to learn they are now in world-orthodoxy and considered to be in an ecumenical Church.
