After my death our beloved Church abroad will break three ways ... first the Greeks will leave us as they were never a part of us ... then those who live for this world and its glory will go to Moscow ... what will remain will be those souls faithful to Christ and His Church. ~St. Philaret of NY

Prayer for those suffering from
Hurricane Matthew

For our brothers and sisters in Haiti, in Florida and in the other states in the southeast of our country:
O Lord our God,
keep all cities and every countryside from the ravages of this hurricane and and its floods.

Strengthen them that labor heroically to preserve life, limb and dwellings from destruction.

Provide shelter to those whose homes are destroyed, and cover them with the shadow of Thy wings.

Establish new and strong fraternal bonds between neighbors.

Refresh the hopes of the downtrodden, and guard from despair them that have lost loved ones, and whose earthly possessions have vanished in an untimely manner before the Judgment Day.

Steady the hearts of the grieving; encourage the fainthearted; uplift the bereaved; and illumine with the light of Thy Gospel them that are mourning in darkness and without our hope in Christ.

Cause, by Thy divine grace, flowers to grow in the desert of natural disaster, bringing good out of tragedy.

Hearken unto us, O God our Savior, Thou hope of all the ends of the earth and them that be far off at sea; and be gracious, be gracious, O Master, unto our sins, and have mercy upon us.

For a merciful God art Thou and the Lover of man, and unto Thee do we send up glory: to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
